Pedestrian Accidents

We've seen an alarming increase in pedestrian accidents and fatalities lately. The attached story from September 2018 said the numbers increased a whopping 525% from the prior year.

Fireworks in Waipahu

Ever since they made normal firecrackers illegal (permit required) aerial fireworks have really increased in Hawaii, especially Kalihi, Waipahu and Ewa Beach. These appear to be commercial grade pyrotechnics, the kind they light in Waikiki. But it's literally right next door. This video was taken by my paralegal Angela at midnight. She says it went on like this until 4am.

The bamboo and pine arrangement depicted above is a Japanese good luck symbol.

The pine represents trees, because they are a place where the spirits of the deities reside.

The bamboo thwarts off the troubles of life because it always grows straight up towards the sky.

The flowers that bloom during winter represent strength and durability, in addition to fortune.

These kadomatsu are placed in pairs at the entrance to homes and businesses, to serve as a gateway for the gods to visit.

My office manager Jodi Hayashida placed these on our reception desk to bring in good luck, happiness and prosperity to my new law firm.
